Throwback Thursday: Some Schultz Visitors
Memorial Day weekend Grandpa Dave and Grandma Tootie were able to come out and visit. Leah was about 3 weeks old. I was still stuggling to recover and get back to normal after the C-section...and I had developed an infection which was further hindering any progress. They of course loved Leah from the start. Grandma Tootie just wanted to hold and rock her non-stop. We were still getting the hang of breastfeeding too, and it seemed like Leah was eating every two hours. It was exhausting. This was also Grandma and Grandpa's first trip to New Jersey. So Daddy took them out and showed them the town. He drove them up to New Brunswick to show them where he worked. The weather was gorgeous while they were in town, so they helped Daddy do a LOT of work in the yard...trimming bushes and trees, and clearing out the garden that we had no idea how to take care of. Grandma Tootie enjoyed the visit so much she decided that she was coming back in the Fall...but more on that later.
In Mid June Aunt Lori, Shelby and Lexi came to visit while Uncle Todd and Justin were on their annual fishing trip to Canada. They couldn't wait to get their hands on Leah. It had been a long time since there was a little baby to love on in the family. These pictures are a little bitter sweet to look at. One thing that we did with Lori, Shelby and Lexi was go to the beach...we took them to the Jersey Shore, Seaside Heights to be specific. And earlier this week a major Hurricane (Sandy) hit the Jersey Shore. It has been devastating to the region and Seaside Heights boardwalk has been wiped out. It will never be the same and the sand has moved so far inland that many blocks of homes/business will have to be demolished. Even our neighbors in New Jersey are still without power 4 days later. So we are keeping them in our prayers...but back to our Schultz family visit: They got in on a Saturday afternoon. I went to get a massage and a pedicure that Mitch had gotten me for my birthday that had just passed. He took Leah to the airport to get them all. We spent the rest of Saturday at the house. Letting them all get to know our newest addition.
On Sunday we headed to Philadelphia bright and early. We went to the Franklin Institute and also to the Liberty Bell. Lexi was cracking us up. She said more than once "What's the big deal, it's just a bell?" We tried to explain the significance and told her she would learn about it someday at school...the mind of a 6 year old :) And on Monday we went to Seaside Heights. It was a cloudy, overcast, breezy day. The water was cold but that didn't stop them from getting in the water. I sat on the beach with Lori, but Mitch and the girls were enjoying the water. They found a few shells and Mitch lost his sunglasses! We didn't get to stay long...after just a few hours (we lunched on the boardwalk first) the rain set it. I was actually pumping breast milk ON THE BEACH, and had to wrap it up and pack up so we could get out of there...but it was fun all the same.
On Tuesday I took them to Princeton to walk around, see the sights and shop a little before we headed to New Brunswick to meet Mitch for lunch. After lunch he took them to the airport and they were on their way back home. We tried not to be too sad about them leaving. Baptism in Illinois was only a month away. These pictures are a total Throwback...my sweet nieces look so small...loved them now, love them then, and look forward to many more adventures!
***Please keep the victims of Hurricane Sandy in your prayers. It reminds me so much of the devastation we saw 6 years ago with Hurrican Katrina that we saw in New Orleans, Missippippi, etc. I can't imagine days with out electricity...HEAT, the usual comforts that we all take for granted. I'm sad to see the pictures, and hate to hear that our friends are still with out power but grateful that they are all safe and okay.
