Fifth Fun

Not really sure what I was thinking but on Friday night I let Leah have quite a few friends over for some fun. Makenna Phillips, Makenzie Robinson, Ella Phares, Faith Roundcount, Luke Shuffit and Alex Strong were all on board for some fun!  I made them stay upstairs for quite a while so I could keep an eye on them. We played a few minute to win it games and they ate their weight in chips and oreos and rice krispie treats. Then I let them hang out a bit in the basement. I seriously went and spied on them every 5 minutes, lol. The best was when they were playing Just Dance. Even the boys were getting in to it. I want the kids and their friends to always view this as a safe, fun place to hand out. I want them to always feel welcome. This is just the beginning.

Dry Land

These kids are such a bunch of goofs, but man oh man do I love hanging out with them. When I told Coach Ed I'd be interested in helping with swim team dry land, I had no idea how much I would love it. It's the best part of my job at the Y...sure I love teaching tabata but these kids are just FUN! The conversations that we have are crazy. You never know what they are going to say, but for the most part, they show up and get the work done. And it's paying off in the pool! Just a glimpse of some of the fun we have, because I want the girls to remember all the times I tried to teach them self-care.

Valentine Classic 2019

Swim, Swim and more Swim! But someday I'm going to miss this. We had an absolute blast at the YDSC Valentine's Classic this weekend. It was only one day of swimming...one very long day of swimming, but this team did great. I saw lots of good sportsmanship. I loved the way our kids cheered each other on. We walked away with some solid time drops too. I can't name them all because it's not on meet mobile, but super Swim dad Mitch was writing them all down. I just love that the girls have found something they enjoy and that they can do for the rest of their lives. And I hope someday down the road they realize how much we supported them and cheered them on every step of the way!

Funky Fish 2019

We spent all weekend at the Funky Fish Classic at Wesleyan University up in Bloomington. Lovely pool, terrible viewing facility. But we survived. We let Hattie stay home with a babysitter all day Saturday. We knew two days in a row of sitting would be a bit much for her.

Since Kiersten will be aging up to the 10U division soon we decided to have her go ahead and swim up this meet. She did not disappoint. She dropped almost 6 seconds in her 50 free. She DQ'd in her 100 breast, and she immediately knew why...one hand touch on her turn. She dropped nearly 10 seconds in her 50 Fly, and a whopping 15 seconds in her 100 free that she swam LAST MONTH! She's such a solid breast stroke swimmer and dropped almost 3 seconds in her 50 breast. This girl just amazes me. She works hard and it shows.

Leah had another amazing meet as well. She took 3rd place and dropped 21 seconds in her 200IM. Not only that she qualified for state! She was really pushing for a state time in her 100IM and she got that too. She had to swim the 12U to get it, but she got it done! Her breast stroke is looking stronger and stronger. She's super close to a state time there too...she dropped 2.5 seconds. Overall another great weekend for our swimmers. Looking forward to our last home meet of the season next weekend.
