ILMEA Districts

What an honor it was for Leah to be asked to play violin at the Illinois Music Education Association District Festival this year. Lucky for us it was at Eastern so Gigi and Papa got to come too.

She got on the bus at 6:45 in the morning. They practiced their songs all day and had a concert in the afternoon. They were quite impressive. My favorite song was a Haitian folk song called Waio Waio. Well done, Leah.

He’s the good

Sometimes there are people in your life that you only see from time to time, and they restore your faith in humanity. We were in Bloomington tonight and went to eat at an Indian Restaurant. After about 15 minutes we realized Dr. Morissetty was at the table behind us. We chatted for a good ten minutes. He joked with Hattie that he delivered her straight from Amazon...or maybe it was EBay. He couldn’t recall, lol. He asked the girls all about school and their activities. Towards the end of our meal he was leaving with his son. He asked the girls what kind of dessert they wanted, and ordered them two Indian desserts to try. After several hugs from Hattie he said goodbye and went on his way. We went to pay and he had taken care of our entire check. So completely unexpected but unbelievably kind. I’m guessing he doesn’t run in to patients in Indian restaurants in Bloomington often. Regardless, he’s amazing and I love knowing that I have such a caring and thoughtful physician...in his Medical practice and in the real world as well!!! Be the good, my friends.

Tennis

My Natural High

My names Leah Schultz and my natural high is tennis.  I got interested when my dad told me he did it in highschool and loved it, and also made state.  One day my dad asked if I wanted to do summer tennis. I said yes without even thinking. When I went to practice for the first time I left with a smile.  I started playing tennis the summer before 5th grade. Tennis makes me feel good and happy. When I hit the ball all my problems go away. When I had to go home, I would be sad.  When i’m on the court I get the feeling I don't want to stop. Tennis is both individual and team. You can choose singles or doubles. You still need your team to support you though.  Sometimes you go against your team.

I’ve told my friends tennis fun, social, and takes great determination.  In fact, I convinced my sisters to do summer tennis. This activity has kept me away from drugs because I know if I do a drug tennis will be harder and less fun.  It also helps me with people skills, and helped me socialized. I encourage others to try multiple activities. You can be bad at stuff and good at stuff, but you can find an activity you love which is worth it.  My name is Leah Schultz and my natural high is tennis.

A Chat with God

“God: How do you think you’re doing as a mom?

Mom: Well I don’t play with my kids as much as I should. I get grumpy. Yesterday they ate pizza for the second time this week. I don’t really like cooking together or crafts, but I wish I did. Sometimes I do it anyway, but mostly I’m just trying not to get annoyed. My house is like one giant clothes and crumb explosion. I really should have them keep their rooms cleaner, but sometimes I just don’t want to pick another battle. I’m not really sure when the last time my second son bathed was. That’s probably not good. Yesterday I snapped over a dirty socks and a candy wrapper that no one was cleaning up. Sometimes I worry because they bicker a lot, like is that my fault? Did I do something wrong? At night I’m so tired I fall into the couch and watch shows and eat snacks until I can’t keep my eyes open anymore. When I lay in bed I find myself wondering if they all are brushing their teeth well enough. I’m too hard on the oldest and too lenient with the youngest. I love our dinnertime discussions and I just can’t get enough of their laughs and the way they tell stories. Sometimes when they’re talking though I’m not really listening I’m worrying about something completely different, I think they can tell. I wonder all the time if I’m doing a good job and if they know how much I love them.

God: Do you love them?

Mom: With my whole entire heart.

God: You sound wonderful.”

Merry Halloween!

It happened! For the first time in I don’t even know how long we had snow for Halloween. It was snowing before we even left the house in the morning! It continued to snow off and on all day. We had small accumulation...but that wasn’t even the problem. It was a brisk 32 degrees for trick or treating!!!

That morning they received special treats from Mrs. Rozanski in the Junior High Office. They each got a bag of nostalgic candy. There was Boston baked beans, Chico sticks, sugar daddy’s, candy cigarettes...but the wax lips were the best. Mitch has just returned from his European work trip. so he picked Hattie up from school and I grabbed Leah and Kiersten and we managed to make it to Charleston around 4:40. Gigi has been getting stronger everyday and she actually made a pot of chili. We had a quick dinner and then the kids took off on Deerfield. When we finished up at Gigi’s we did a quick lap around another nearby neighborhood in Charleston and headed home. When we got back to Mt. Zion the girls went to a few houses on our street. Their bags were overflowing! Another very Happy Halloween for the Schultz crew.
