Schaumburg’s

This weekend after 15+ months of covid we finally gathered with family…I mean lots of family. It was a lovely day to see so many of the Schaumburg aunts, uncles and cousins. Especially with our pending relocation. I appreciate these people and enjoy my time with them more and more as I get older.

This is something I hope we can do more often when we return. I was telling Mitch on the way home it’s been 9 years since all my cousins were together and I don’t know when/if we’ll be together again…but we’re certainly going to try. I know it meant so much to Gigi and her brothers and cousins too.

Firecracker Classic

I don’t know why it took us so long to come to this long course meet, but we made the trek to Quincy this weekend and we’ll certainly be back. The facility was fantastic, we just wish the weather had been a little better. The temperature was perfect, high 70’s to low 80’s…but we like things a little more dry!

On Friday night they were able to get one whole event in before the rains came. And by rain I mean a torrential downpour. It was quite a storm. But after Kiersten finished her 200IM, and qualified for state we headed to the hotel. We ordered Chinese food and watched the gymnastics Olympic trials. Simone Biles was ah-mazing!

Bright and early Saturday morning, 6:45 to be exact we were back at the pool. Kiersten had an amazing meet qualifying for the 200IM, 100 breast, 50 free, 50 back and the 200 free! This was Hatties first long course meet and she did great…swimming the 100 back, the 100 free and she swam the 50 breast beautifully despite losing her goggles.

In the afternoon Leah was up. She was more excited about seeing her friends Alex and Shelby Strong. She had a busy day. She qualified for state in the 200IM, 50 free and 100 breast. But more importantly she swam her first 400IM. It was actually cancelled on Friday night and it was around 7:39pm when she finally got her chance. So after 5 events and 12+ hours she crushed it and finished in 6:57!!! It was a great day for our Gators.

Number 9!

Oh Miss Hattie! She certainly celebrated her birthday big. She started blowing out the candles on her birthday donut. She was treated to sushi for lunch. Her birthday dinner at Gigi’s was fried chicken and mashed potatoes…her favorite! There was cupcakes (homemade by Bug) and present with family, followed by Colby and Jackson’s baseball games. We ended the night playing at Morton park…and of course with our traditional birthday ice cream cone from Dairy Queen. I’d say she had a good day. Happy #9 Hattie!!!

A Good Day for a Good Day!

Yes, today was definitely a good day to have a good day!

Hattie had a great check up with Dr. Hruska for her Henoch Schonlein Purpura! No blood or protein in her urine…finally! He said her pressure looks good so she’s discharged from nephrology. So we celebrated with a Unicorn cake pop. It might not seem like much but just one less thing to worry about in Spain.

Then after we got home we had a birthday celebration. We were happy to celebrate Miss Hattie before the storms rolled in. We had a bounce house, plenty of snacks and a few friends! Of course it was super hot and muggy but the kids don’t care! They loved it and went back and forth between the bounce house and the trampoline. They ate loads of watermelon and caught plenty lightning bugs. Girlfriend even got a new bike for her big day. Gotta love summer nights and we sure do love our Hattiecakes too!

Goodbye Arizona

It feels like this is the beginning of our goodbye tour, and summer just started! After seventeen days we had to leave Arizona. But this time was just a little more difficult than the last few times. With our move just around the corner it’s hard not knowing when we’ll be back.

We loved our desert Mountain View’s. We soaked up so much fun in the sun in Gigi and Papa’s pool. We played Euchre pretty much every night on the patio.

Ellen joined us for a week and we introduced her to a few of our faves. We had pedicures and frost and Sauce…we even saw some movies! It always goes too fast but we hold tight to the memories.
