Babies Don't Keep
So this happened in church yesterday...sigh, be still my heart. And everytime I looked over them a poem came to mind. It's called Babies Don't Keep:
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Hike for the Hive
Yesterday McGaughey Elementary held its first ever Hike for the Hive Fundraiser. The company that they had contracted with previously for its fundraising had gone out of business over the summer. So this was a last minute plan by the "Queen Bee" Mrs. Warner and her worker bees, the teachers. Families were asked to come up with sponsors for their children and the children ran the track. The parents were told if the school raised $8,000 for McGaughey, this would be the only fundraiser all year. Well, not only did the raise the $8,000, they doubled it and brought in over $17,000...amazing.
It was a gorgeous day to be outside. And the kids were so excited. I volunteered for Bug's class and it was a fun day to be with these little ones. They started with some music and dancing while the buses unloaded. Mrs. Warner spoke for a minute and then Mt. Zion High School Drum Corp performed. After that the "hiking" began. The kids were adorable. They were eager to make it around that track! After they finished each one got a medal. After all the classes had gone, they announced the top sellers. Bug was disappointed that she wasn't one of them, she brought in almost $200 but those are the breaks. Then Scovill Mobile Zoo showed up. Each teacher whose class raised more than $500 had to kiss a skunk. The kids thought this was hilarious. It was a great day for the kids and an even better day for Mt. Zion Schools...I was glad I got to be there to support them.

Grandparents Day 2015
This week the Mt. Zion Schools are celebrating Grandparents day. Fortunately for us, my girls appointed Grandparents days fell on the same day. So on Tuesday Gigi and Papa made the drive over to Mt. Zion so they could visit the girls classrooms.
Leah was up first. She is at a new school this year, Mt. Zion Grade. They started in the gym where Mr. Gruen (the principal) gave a quick speech and they the grandparents were escorted to the appropriate classroom. Leah's teacher, Mrs. Hatayama, had quite a turnout. When I walked by it was standing room only. Mrs. Hatayama had an activity for them to do in the classroom and then Leah took them around the school on a scavenger hunt. They were able to bring Leah home with them so she didn't have to ride the bus. She thought that was pretty great.
Later that evening, McGaughey Elementary was hosting Kindergarten Grandparents Night. I was actually volunteering at the schools. They started in the cafeteria where I was able to snap a picture of all three of them. Then they were off to Mrs. Reatherfords class. Kiersten had a great time showing them her room. I think she loved doing the photo booth...and I love that Gigi and Papa were good sports. Then she toured the school with them and showed them where she does art, music and library before we called it a night. My girls are super blessed to be able to spend this time with my parents.

And She's Off!!!
And then there were none. Okay, Okay, so maybe I'm being a little dramatic. I can't help it. My baby girl, my sweet little Hattiecakes just started Preschool. I didn't cry...how could I? She was over the top excited. There was no holding this kid back. She ran to the room. She knew the teachers by name. She knew the routine. Grab a table toy and wait for the friends to arrive. I mean, it helped that she watched Bug do it for the past 2 years. But this time it's different. I am alone. Okay, so it's only for 2 hours twice a week, barely enough time to get any errands ran, but its still strange. I love this kid. I love her expressions, I love her caring heart. I kept teasing her all morning that I didn't want her to go, that I would miss her too much. To which she would then place one tiny hand on each of my cheeks and say "but I'll be right back mom." and then kiss my nose gently. I mean, ugh...what's not to love. She's just so darn lovable and I love that I get to be her mom! Have a great time at school, Hattie...I know you are going to move mountains!
