Part of the fun in traveling is trying the cultural cuisine. There were a few things we knew we HAD to try. But a big thanks to our AirBnB host for giving us lots of tips on the rest of our “must haves”!
We had a whole lot of gyros and souvlaki and we aren’t even sad about it! They’re very similar dishes. You can get lamb, veal, chicken or pork and they all come with a pita, tzatziki, tomatoes and onions. A Gyro comes with the shaved meat, while Souvlaki come with it on a skewer. I had the mousaka on day one and it was excellent…potatoes, ground meat, eggplant…yes please! Mitch and I enjoyed sharing the Haloumi salad a few times, mixed greens with a vinaigrette and a firm Greek cheese.
The desserts were excellent! We had a bakery we kept going back to. I’ll just post the pictures of all the goodies and label them but the Diples and the Ekmek Kataifi were my faves! We need a three day detox from all these good eats.
