Rescuing Rapunzel

We have the best Gigi EVER! Yesterday she took us to the Children's theatre at Sullivan's Little Theatre of the Square, what a treat. I have a few memories of going there when I was a kid. I recall seeing Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk fondly. It really is a special treat and a hidden gem in Central Illinois...one that I intend to fully take advantage of. In addition to the 3 or 4 matinee children's shows that they do throughout the summer, they also do wonderful productions for grown-ups. A few weeks ago it was Footloose, right now they are doing Oklahoma and in about 2 weeks they are doing the Producers. Since they are currently doing Oklahoma, they had to find a children's show to do that would match the backdrop/stage setting. So Rescuing Rapunzel it is...Its a wild west take on the Tangled story. Auntie G cast a spell on Rapunzels parents because they stole vegetables from her garden, and she steals the baby Rapunzel away and hides her in a Silo tower...Rapunzel wears a cowgirl hat and cowgirl boots and in the end rescues herself by lassoing her long hair around something and jumping to her escape. She is not very smart about the world around her, she thinks Cheese burgers grow on trees and she says "purple" after someone has to sneeze, but she takes up with a cowhand who teaches her about the world around her. She and the cowhand work to reunite Rapunzel with her family and become best friends in the process. It was so fun and the girls LOVED it. Even Kiersten sat still the entire time with her eyes glued to the stage. The singing and dancing were a big hit.

Afterwards we went to the ever popular McDonalds for lunch. Gigi got the girls happy meals, although they could hardly eat a bite after all the Del's popcorn they ate at the show. It was a superfun day and we are so lucky that Sullivan is smack dab between Charleston and Decatur giving us the perfect meeting place.
