Fantastic Freddy's

About a year ago, my dad decided to set out on a new "restaurant" adventure. For those of you that don't know my dad...restaurants are his passion. Well, besides Golf anyways. He started his first restaurant in 1976 and hasn't stopped since. Two Pizza Places, 7 Arby's, 2 Cheddar's and a Stadium Grill later...here we are, Freddy's. This is the first time that my brother has been in on it from the get go. And that's just because it's the first time that he has been old enough. Matt went with Dad to Kansas in June or July to meet with Corporate about the franchise agreement. They came to Mattoon to check out the potential site and gave us the go-ahead. Not just the go-ahead...The go-ahead for 5 franchises. Matt and Dad were super excited. They broke ground in August. In late September Matt went to Wichita, KS for 5 weeks of training. And today they are opening up shop for the first time! They worked hard and fast. Their determination, hard work and "can do" attitude are inspiring, especially in these difficult economic times. They are taking a chance and starting a new endeavor and providing jobs. I wish them the best of luck and pray that they may always know success!!! Growing up my dad was always like a kid in a candy store when opening up a new shop, and I love it when he has that energy. And it was so awesome to see Matt really feel some ownership and step up to the plate. And where on earth would this family be without Cynthia who doesn't even really work for Freddy's but has spent countless hours helping with the training. The girls and I gave it a test run on Monday, and we give it two thumbs up...especially that delicious custard!
