Tuesday morning we took our time getting moving. Mitch had purchased us tickets for La Catedral de Barcelona. Walking through the Gothic Quarters was on Gigi's list so that's what we did. There was also a Christmas Market in front of the cathedral. Papa found some Cuban Cigars. Gigi found a beautiful silver bracelet with a pearl from the Mediterranean. The artist was even working the booth, so I think Gigi enjoyed talking with him. Mitch and I grabbed some ornament keepsakes for the girls. and Leah got a pooping Santa...yeah, it's a thing. It has quite a history, about fertilizing for the New Year and dates back many, many years. I can't even believe I'm including this in a post about a catedral, but they even put "pooping" persons IN the nativity. I can't even!
But back to the cathedral. Like most cathedrals in Europe it was breathtaking. So many beautiful details. One of the chapels displayed dated back to 290. They had many different small chapel areas, most dedicated to different Saints. One thing that made this chapel interesting was the elevator to the rooftop. While parts of it are under construction/maintenance, there were some pretty amazing views from above. It gave a pretty clear view of Montjuic and of course La Sagrada familia.
Outside of the basilica, there was a large courtyard. There were geese, that live on the property and are the "protectors". The girls enjoyed seeing them. Gigi and Papa bought a few gifts in the giftshop and afterwards we wandered a little more through the Gothic Quarters.
